Vegetable Shortening [Palm Oil]
Vegetable shortening is a semi-solid fat made from vegetable oil. It has a higher smoke point than traditional butter and margarine. Shortening is commonly used to slow the development of gluten in baked goods to make them more tender. Palm oil is an oil that has a fatty acid content that is more stable at high heat than other vegetable oils. It is obtained from the fruit of a palm tree.
